Alex proved a wise investment for the rookie Australian
Motorsports Racing team (Walker) as the six-year
veteran scored two podiums and led the team to 10
top-10 finishes. Scored podiums in Monterrey and
Toronto. Scored 207 championship points to finish
seventh in the standings for the fourth consecutive
year.
2004
Ended years of near-misses by taking elusive first
Champ Car series victory, climbing from 13th on
the starting grid to take the win at Road America…Used
that win to climb into the top five in the points,
where he would stay until a run of bad luck at the
end of the year dropped him out of the title chase…A
string of eight consecutive top-10 finishes boosted
him to a career-high seventh place standing in the
points…Finished 13 of the 14 events…Scored
podium finish in Cleveland, coming back from early
spin to place third.
2003
Alex proved a wise investment for the rookie Rocketsports
Racing team as the four-year veteran scored two
poles, three podiums and led the team to a top-10
finish. Tagliani rebounded from a first-race crash
to start and finish third in Monterrey, starting
a string of three straight races that saw him start
in the top five… He scored his fourth career
pole by pacing qualifying in Milwaukee and would
go on to finish fifth... Scored podiums in Portland
and Road America and again nearly had that elusive
first win in his grasp after leading a race-high
52 laps from the pole in his native Montreal before
falling victim to fuel mileage and placing fourth…
Earned 10 top-10 finishes and scored 97 championship
points to finish in the top 10 in the standings
for the second consecutive year.
2002
Started his third Champ Car season with a strong
opener, leading 13 laps and finishing fifth at Monterrey...
Would match a career best with a second-place run
at Motegi after starting 12th and broke a Player’s/Forsythe
team record by scoring 10 consecutive points-paying
finishes on his way to his best Champ Car campaign...
Led a career-high 115 laps in 2002 and finished
second to series champion Cristiano da Matta at
Elkhart Lake… Finished 15 events, the second-most
in the series…Carded top-five finishes at
Monterrey, Cleveland and Miami to go with his two
podiums… Qualified second and led 79 laps
at Chicago…Finished a career-high eighth in
the Champ Car World Series standings with a personal
best 111 points.
2001
Bounced back from a slow start to conclude his second
Champ Car season with Player’s/Forsythe Racing
by posting an 11th-place finish in the championship
... Recorded the first podium finish of his career
- second at Toronto - before concluding the campaign
with consecutive podium results of third at Australia
and California Speedway to vault from 16th to 11th
in the championship ... Misfortune at Vancouver
cost him another opportunity at his first career
win… Was dominant all weekend as he won the
pole and led the first 68 laps before exiting with
mechanical failure... Was one of four multiple pole
winners on the season, earning poles at Vancouver
and California Speedway ... Scored championship
points in eight of nine starts between Round 6 (Milwaukee)
and Round 14 (Road America) ...Finished 11th in
the Champ Car World Series championship with 80
points.
2000
Rookie Champ Car season featured some spectacular
moments, but was hampered by inconsistency ... Recorded
points-paying finishes of ninth at Homestead and
a season-best fourth at Long Beach to become the
first driver to score points in the first two races
of his inaugural season since Scott Atchison in
1988 ... Followed up by earning his first career
pole position and leading a race-high 76 laps at
Rio de Janeiro, only to spin twice in the final
10 laps while within sight of his first career victory
... Also led a race-high 23 laps at Road America
before being sidelined by a mechanical failure ...
Ended the season with seven points-paying results
in 20 starts ... Finished 16th in the Champ Car
standings.
1999
Completed fourth full season in the Toyota Atlantic
Championship and finished fourth in the championship
... Reached the podium in five of his first seven
races, including wins in the season opener at Long
Beach and from the pole in Montreal ... Followed
Montreal with his second straight pole position,
this time at Road America where he established a
track record ... Fifth and final podium of the season
came at Mid-Ohio, where he battled his way from
fifth on the grid ... Won his third and final pole
at Vancouver.
1998
In his second year with the Player’s Atlantic
Team, he battled back from a rough start (14th in
the championship after three races) to finish fifth
overall with 130 points, only nine behind series
runner-up Andrew Bordin ... Tied for the series
lead for most poles with three ... Recorded back-to-back
mid-season victories at Toronto and Trois-Rivières
to challenge for the top spot in the standings,
then encountered some hard luck before closing out
the season in strong fashion with a fourth-place
finish at Laguna Seca and a runner-up effort at
Houston.
1997
Driving for the newly formed Player’s Atlantic
Team, he was in the hunt for the Toyota Atlantic
championship until the second-to-last event and
finished the season in third ... Notched two victories,
the first at Long Beach and the second came before
the home crowd in Trois-Rivières ... Earned
two poles (Cleveland, Trois-Rivières) and
recorded podium finishes at Nazareth, Toronto and
Laguna Seca.
1996
Finished seventh in the Toyota Atlantic Championship
as a member of P-1 Racing ... Runner-up for Rookie-of-the-Year
honors … Recorded his best finish in front
of the home crowd, taking third at Trois-Rivières.
